Wheeling police watching school zones

The Wheeling Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting enhanced enforcement starting Wednesday, Aug. 21, to remind people to be watchful of school students.

Police will be targeting the following violations: failure to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks, violations of school speed zones, talking on a cellphone in a school zone, passing a stopped school bus, and disobeying school crossing guards.

During the first several weeks of school, several school zones throughout town will receive extra patrols. These locations have been identified by the traffic unit as some of the top violation sites in Wheeling. Police use both marked and unmarked police vehicles to enforce the school zones.
