Two charged in car burglaries near St. Charles

Two people were charged after a string of car burglaries earlier this month in an unincorporated area near St. Charles.

A total of eight car burglaries took place between Aug. 7 and Aug. 10 in the area of Falcons Trail. Items stolen included small electronics and credit cards, Kane County sSheriff’s officers said.

Christopher Mentenick, 24, of Sycamore and Rebecca Olson, 19, of Schaumburg were charged with multiple counts of burglary after Streamwood police arrested them last week and discovered an iPad that had been stolen from a car near St. Charles, Kane County police said.

Police say the pair used the stolen credit cards to purchase items and then pawned the items for cash.

Each was charged with one count of felony burglary and three counts of felony unlawful possession of a credit card.

People should never leave valuables or garage door openers in cars parked in the driveway and should always keep doors locked, Kane County Sheriff Patrick B. Perez said in a statement.
