Little Bear Ribfest features blues and BBQ
Chicago blues and award-winning ribs highlight the Little Bear Ribfest from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, Aug. 23, and 3 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Aug. 24, in Century Park, 1001 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills.
Admission is $5 and supports the park district’s Family Scholarship Program. Six vendors will sell ribs at a nominal cost. Vendors are Sweet Baby Ray’s of Wood Dale, Uncle Bub’s from Westmont, Real Urban Barbeque in Vernon Hills, Smokin’ T’s of Long Grove, and The Full Slab from Third Lake.
The Mundelein/Vernon Hills and Lincolnshire Rotary clubs will sell roasted corn and Bo-Bo’s of Vernon Hills will offer desserts. Beer, wine, and soft drinks also will be available.
Friday night’s entertainment will begin at 7 p.m. with Ana Popovic, whose 2011 album, Unconditional, reached No. 1 in the U.S. Billboard and Blues Chart.
She’s followed at 9 p.m. by two-time Grammy nominee Shemekia Copeland. John Condron of The Old Gang Orchestra, who recently returned from a tour of Ireland, will perform on the Beer Garden stage at 10:30 p.m.
Saturday’s lineup begins at 5 p.m. with the Red, White and Blues Band. Indigenous, a member of the Jimi Hendrix Tribute Show since 2002, follows at 7 p.m.
Trampled Under Foot, which took first place in the International Blues Challenge and was a 2012 Nominee for Band of the Year in the Blues Music Award, will take the stage at 9 p.m.
