Boomers rally, increase division lead

The Schaumburg Boomers extended their lead in the Frontier League’s West Division to 2 games with 17 to play by rallying from down 3 runs to steal a 4-3 win over the visiting Traverse City Beach Bums on Friday.

Traverse City, who entered the game as the co-leaders of the East, broke open a scoreless game with 3 runs in the fifth inning, two of which crossed on a double from Carlo Testa.

Schaumburg plucked a run off the lead in the fifth when Gerard Hall scored from second on a wild pitch. Bubba Dotson hit a solo homer in the sixth to bring the Boomers within a run.

Schaumburg struck for 2 runs without the luxury of a hit in the seventh to grab the lead. After the bases were walked full, Sean Mahley crossed on a wild pitch and Frank Pfister lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Steve McQuail with the winning run.

Matt Kuna started and allowed 3 runs in 5 innings. James Bierlein earned the win with a pair of scoreless innings, striking out three. Dexter Price recorded the final three outs for his 11th save of the season.
