Have your quilt appraised at McHenry museum

Submitted by McHenry County Historical Society

The McHenry County Historical Society will offer an afternoon of quilt appraisals Sunday, Aug. 25. The event, with appraisals done by Crystal Lake quilt appraiser and author Sandy Schweitzer, will be from 1 to 4 p.m. in the research library of the museum, 6422 Main St., Union.

A donation of $30 to the historical society is requested for each 15-minute verbal appraisal.

Schweitzer is a highly regarded quilt artist and teacher, as well as American Quilt Society certified appraiser. Her presentations, which are open to the public, are informative and entertaining.

Much like “Antiques Roadshow,” viewers will learn about each quilt’s history, pattern and construction. Schweitzer has lectured extensively and also offers a variety of workshops. For information, visit www.quiltappraisalsplus.com.

There are 12 slots available on a first-come, first-served basis. Prepayment by check or credit card is required, with all proceeds benefiting the society.

Call (815) 923-2267 by 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, to reserve your spot.

Participants receive free admission to the museum, as do society members. Nonmembers pay a small admission charge. Visit www.mchsonline.org.
