Wheeling Couple Featured On MTV True Life: I'm Desperate for a Baby
When Jenna and Kurt Kutska learned they would need help from fertility doctors, they didn't know that they would also share their journey to parenthood with the entire nation. Featured on MTV True Life: I'm Desperate for a Baby, the documentary follows Jenna and Kurt as they pursue fertility treatment in hopes of having a child.
Jenna was diagnosed with endometriosis, a condition where endometrial tissue that is normally released in the uterus during menstruation may also release in other areas of the body. After two years of trying to become pregnant, Jenna was devastated to learn that due to endometriosis, she had blocked fallopian tubes. In order to achieve pregnancy, in-vitro fertilization would be necessary. Although discouraged by the diagnosis, Jenna was also determined to become a mother. As the cameras rolled, Jenna and Kurt began treatment.
“At first, it was hard to share such personal experiences with others,” says Jenna. “We were afraid. What if we couldn't get pregnant? But we became close with the FCI staff as well as the camera crew, and we knew that sharing out story would help other couples.”
Jenna and Kurt didn't have to wait long to achieve their goal. After their first attempt at IVF, Jenna became pregnant with a baby boy.
“We were thrilled to learn that Jenna and Kurt's dream of becoming parents was coming true,” explains Jenna's physician, Dr. Angeline Beltsos of Fertility Centers of Illinois. "They are brave to share their story with the world, and in doing so they will help others have hope and gain strength in pursuit of a family."
Jenna and Kurt spent many days with the crew, who filmed their every move.
“We were so excited to be pregnant,” explains Jenna. “Sharing our experience really opened our eyes. I give a lot more credit to anyone who is in a documentary or reality show. You don't realize how much time and thought goes into filming each detail, and how time consuming the process can be. It was all worth it”
Jenna, 27, is a hair colorist for Pascal Pour Elle in Glenview and Kurt, 34, works as a special education teacher at Buffalo Grove High School. They reside in Wheeling, IL, a suburb of Chicago where Fertility Centers of Illinois has their offices. Now they have their new baby boy, Justin, who was born July 18, 2013 to add to the Kutska home.
MTV True Life is an Emmy award-winning documentary series that aired its first episode in 1998. The series focuses on documenting the struggles, hopes, and dreams of young people as they face challenges in life. Others who have been featured include deaf teenagers, people living with autism, and people with traumatic brain injury.
