Cubs place Guerrier, Neal on DL
PHILADELPHIA – The Chicago Cubs today placed right-handed pitcher Matt Guerrier on the 60-day disabled list with right elbow soreness and outfielder Thomas Neal on the 15-day disabled list with a dislocated right shoulder, team officials announced Thursday.
As a result of that action, the Cubs recalled right-handed pitcher Eduardo Sanchez from Triple-A Iowa and selected the contract of catcher J.C. Boscan from Triple-A. Both Sanchez and Boscan will be available for this afternoon’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.
Sanchez, 24, has spent part of the last three seasons in the big leagues with the Cardinals (2011-12) and Cubs (2013), combining to go 3-2 with 5 saves and a 3.38 ERA (18 ER/48.0 IP) in 45 relief appearances.
Boscan, 33, returns to the big leagues after spending parts of the last three seasons with the Braves (2010-12), posting a career .263 batting average (5-for-19) in 11 major league contests. The Venezuelan native is batting .253 (49-for-194) with 9 doubles and 18 RBI in 62 games with Iowa this season.
