Voters to determine talent contest Fan Favorite

The winner of Suburban Chicago's Got Talent will be announced Saturday, but the choice of Fan Favorite remains in the hands of online voters.

Voting continues through 9 a.m. Friday at dailyherald.com/entertainment/talent. There you can view videos (captured at the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre last Sunday) of the summerlong competition's Top 10 finalists and vote for your favorites.

“The Daily Herald came up with the idea of a Fan Favorite just so that all of our readers could participate,” said Eileen Brown, director of strategic marketing and innovation for the Daily Herald. “It was a good way to get more exposure for the contestants because we've been able to videotape them so everybody can see them online — you don't necessarily have to go to the show in order to participate.”

The act with the most online votes will win a Funjet Vacation for two. The top prize for Suburban Chicago's Got Talent is an expenses-paid trip to audition for producers of NBC's “America's Got Talent.”

Audiences who attended the live shows had a say in deciding which acts would advance, joining the tallies of the judging panel that featured Metropolis executive director Charlie Beck, Metropolis music director Micky York, College of DuPage director of theater Connie Canaday Howard and Daily Herald writer Barbara Vitello, who reviews theater.

Both the overall winner and the Fan Favorite will be announced at the Taste of Arlington Heights Saturday after performances of the Top 10. The 2:30 p.m. event at Vail Avenue and Campbell Street will also feature a performance by last year's winner iLLest Vocals.
