The House Ethics Committee is investigating a claim made by Office of Congressional Ethics that the Taiwanese government improperly funded a 2011 Taiwan trip that Roskam took with his wife. Roskam's daughter was also teaching in Taiwan at the time. Roskam has noted that the ethics committee approved the trip in advance of their departure.
The eight-day trip cost roughly $25,000. Roskam's office says the majority of the cost was related to travel to and within Taiwan.
