Palatine Park District/SWANCC Present Electronics Recycling and Document Destruction Event

The Palatine Park District Environmental Committee will present an Electronics

Recycling and Document Destruction Event in cooperation with SWANC, the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County. Items will be collected on Saturday, August 10 from 9:00am to 12:00pm in the Community Center Back Lot, 250 E. Wood Street, Palatine. This event is for resident household items only. Residents from any SWANCC community can participate; a complete list of communities can be found at www.swancc.org under “Who Is SWANCC.” Business and institutional groups are not allowed. Hazardous waste and other unlisted materials will not be accepted, proof of residency will be checked, and no vehicle will be allowed to enter the event line after 12:00pm.

Document Destruction

This service is provided as a courtesy to residents who have sensitive documents to recycle, such as medical records, tax forms, bank statements, etc. Documents are loaded into a shredding truck on site. The paper is then cross-shredded, baled and recycled. Documents must be brought to the event in either paper shopping bags or cardboard boxes. No plastic bags please. There is a limit of six file-size boxes or paper shopping bags per vehicle. Paper clips and staples do not need to be removed, but please remove binders.

Electronics Recycling

New legislation in Illinois bans televisions and computer monitors from going into public landfills. SWANCC contracts with Supply-Chain Services, Inc. (SSI) to responsibly recycle electronics. Visit the SWANCC site at www.swancc.org to view a video that shows how your electronics’ hard drives are erased, demanufactured and processed. Hazardous waste and other unlisted materials will not be accepted.

Items that will be accepted include: cable receivers, computers, computer cables, computer monitors, converter boxes, fax machines, mobile telephones, mouse or keyboards, MP3 players, portable digital assistants, printers, satellite receivers, scanners, televisions, video game consoles, video recorders/players, and zip drives.
