No injuries in Carpentersville basement fire

A fire destroyed the basement of a single-family home in Carpentersville Wednesday, authorities said.

Firefighters responded to a home on the 100 block of Golfview Lane around 3:30 p.m., according to Kieran Stout, a battalion chief with the Carpentersville and Countryside Fire Department.

The residents were home at the time of the fire, but they safely evacuated on their own before firefighters arrived, Stout said.

Firefighters extinguished the fire, which was contained to the basement of the home, in about 20 minutes, Stout said. There were no injuries.

The estimated damage is about $40,000 to the home and roughly $10,000 to the home’s contents, Stout said, and the cause remains under investigation.
