McLean Co. coroner says woman set herself on fire

SHIRLEY — The McLean County Coroner says a woman whose burning body was found in a central Illinois field set herself on fire.

Beth Kimmerling says the remains found Monday in the rural community of Shirley likely belonged to a missing 26-year-old Bloomington woman.

Investigators believe the woman doused herself with an accelerant. Her body was still on fire when rescuers discovered it Sunday in a farm field about six miles southwest of Bloomington.

Kimmerling says the woman died of thermal burns and no foul play is suspected.
