Police say shoplifter tossed baby out window

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. — A southwestern Illinois woman is accused of tossing her infant through a car window while trying to flee after authorities say she shoplifted from a department store.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports prosecutors in St. Clair County charged 23-year-old Mykayla M. Bator of Swansea with felony counts of theft and drug possession, as well as misdemeanor child endangerment.

Fairview Heights police say Bator bolted to a waiting vehicle with her 1-year-old, tossing the child through an open window into the back seat after she was confronted as a suspected shoplifter outside a Kohl’s store.

Then she got in the passenger seat of the vehicle, which drove away.

Police say the child wasn’t injured.

Bator doesn’t have a listed telephone number. Online court records don’t show whether she has an attorney.
