Chicago officer shoots, kills man with knife

Chicago police say an officer shot and killed a man when he lunged at them after stabbing his estranged wife.

Chicago police say the shooting happened Sunday night on the city’s South Side. Police say officers responding to a domestic dispute found the woman in front of a home. She told them her estranged husband was armed with a knife and following her. Police asked her to retrieve a copy of her order of protection against the man from her home.

Police say that’s when they heard the woman scream. They approached and found the man stabbing her. Police say the man turned and lunged toward officers. An officer then shot and killed the man.

The man and woman were not immediately identified. The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating.
