Boomers rally past Grizzlies

By

The host Schaumburg Boomers put the brakes on a five-game losing streak by rallying from a 3-run deficit to take down the West Division-leading Gateway Grizzlies 6-5 on Saturday night.

Gateway opened a 3-0 lead early, using base running and two-out hits to plate a run in the first, and two in the second. The Grizzlies stole seven bases in the game.

The Boomers battled to within 3-2 with single runs in the second and fourth.

Two unearned runs allowed Gateway to pad the advantage to 5-2 in the fifth.

Alexi Colon drove in a run in the bottom of the inning with a single while Gerard Hall knocked home a run in the sixth with a triple to bring Schaumburg within 5-4.

Jordan Dean came through with the bases loaded in the eighth inning, floating a 2-run single to left to put the Boomers ahead for the first time.

Chris Phelan allowed 3 earned runs in 6 innings in a no decision. Adam Tollefson, a key reliever in 2012, made his return to the team and worked 123 innings with 3 strikeouts to earn the win. Dexter Price worked the final out for the save.
