Des Plaines’ National Night Out Aug. 6

The Des Plaines Police Department invites the community to its National Night Out event, from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, in the north parking lot of Maine West High School, 1755 S. Wolf Road.

The event will include a display of police and fire department vehicles, presentations, a climbing wall, face painters and several other displays. A variety of educational/safety materials will be available.

According to Des Plaines Police Officer Mike Meyer, “National Night Out was initiated as a means of heightening crime and drug prevention awareness and support. On a local level, we are hoping to create neighborhood spirit and form partnerships between the community and the police department.”

“We are hoping that the community will visit our National Night Out event and take this opportunity to acquaint themselves with the Des Plaines Police Department. We are here to serve the residents of Des Plaines and the evening’s planned events will be a positive means of getting to know the men and women of the police department,” Meyer said.
