The Island Lake village board on Thursday agreed to pay $1,800 for mosquito-abatement efforts ahead of Saturday's Island Lakefest event. Village officials and residents have complained about the bloodsucking pests this summer. Lakefest will run from 3 p.m. to dusk at Veterans Park, 432 W. State Road. A car show, games, a dunk tank and kids activities are planned. A fireworks show over the lake will close out the night. Additionally, the village also will host a touch-a-truck event from 2 to 5 p.m. at Water Tower Park, 429 W. State Road. Admission to both sites is free.
