If the Bible says it, we’d better get on it

A big thank-you to James Dubinski (July 17) for pointing out what God intended regarding the so-called “marriage equality” discussion. I knew Genesis covered it somehow, but I couldn’t remember the exact details. The divine knowledge he presented from the Good Book inspired me to look up other things that Gov. Pat Quinn and other Christians might be missing.

We seem to totally have forgotten Exodus 21:20-21: “When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property.” Shouldn’t this be worked into our legal system?

Although it will be messy, we’re probably going to have to kill several of our troubled teens. Leviticus 20:9: “Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death. Because they have cursed their father or mother, their blood will be on their own head.” They will be missed.

Finally, for the females out there, you are probably speaking a little too much and may have to change professions. 1 Timothy 2:11-12: “A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.” Our elected state officials should work this into our legislation, and many ladies should prepare their resumes for new careers.

As a society, it is about time we start taking this perfect word of God seriously! (Note: disregard the polygamy of Abraham, Jacob, Esau, Gideon, Saul, David, Ahab, to name a few, and especially Solomon’s 700 wives and 300 concubines.) Marriage clearly means: 1 man and 1 woman.
