Ex-school safety officer gets 90 days for sex with student

A former safety officer at Waukegan High School’s Brookside Campus has been sentenced to 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student. Timothy Kinsey, 44, of Waukegan, was also sentenced to 18 months of periodic imprisonment and 24 months of probation by Lake County Judge George Bridges after pleading guilty to a single count of criminal sexual abuse, prosecutors said. Kinsey was charged Oct. 10, 2012 with two counts of criminal sexual assault and one count of criminal sexual abuse after Kinsey gave a voluntary statement admitting to the sexual relationship with the student while he was being charged in another crime. School officials said no other students were involved in the relationship. The two charges of assault were dropped as part of plea deal with prosecutors.
