W. Dundee water main break means lane closing on Rt. 72

A water main break Monday night on Route 72 in West Dundee means the road will be narrowed to one lane from Thursday until Monday.

Crews will work to repair the break and its surrounding pavement starting at 6 a.m. Thursday. While the work is going on, westbound Route 72 will be reduced to one lane between First and Third streets, officials said. The village has hired a company to spend Wednesday marking the pavement for utilities.

The Illinois Department of Transportation requires West Dundee to wait three days before the concrete completely cures around the break, which is why that lane will be shut down for so long, Village Manager Joe Cavallaro said.

The break occurred between Second and Third Streets, but is no cause for concern, Cavallaro said.

“It's a slow leak, it's not like it's a safety issue,” Cavallaro said.

Officials ask that you reduce your speed and drive cautiously through the work area.
