ArtReach Educational Theatre set to stage ‘Xanadu’

ArtReach Educational Theatre, in partnership with Spotlite Theatrix Production Company, is staging “Xanadu.”

“Xanadu” will be presented at the Meadows Center Auditorium, 2850 W. Golf Road, Rolling Meadows, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2; 3 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3; and 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4. For tickets, call (630) 808-5852.

Tickets are $18 at the door and $16 in advance. Reservations are recommended. Group discounts are available.

“Xanadu” follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, Calif., in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time — the first Roller Disco.

But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds.

The production is directed by Dan Walsh of Chicago, with choreography by Walsh, Anne Santiago of Los Angeles, Jonah Parra of Palatine, Jackie Podgorny of Inverness, Jamie Podgorny of Inverness, Rachel Corrado of Lake Zurich, Breton Spiller of Mount Prospect and Olivia DalPorto of Lake Zurich.

Musical direction is by Samantha Gatwood of Elk Grove Village.

Principal cast members include Christina Melgar of Wheeling as Kira, Jonah Parra as Sonny Malone, Jamey McDunn of Schaumburg as Danny, Madalyn Griseto of Elk Grove Village as Melpomene, Lizzie Jassin of Wheeling as Calliope, Dylan DeWiit of Buffalo Grove as Hermes/Zeus, and Matt Goodmanson of Arlington Heights as Cyclops/Tubes Singer.

The mission of ArtReach Educational Theatre is to expose children to all aspects of theater, music and dance. ArtReach offers private voice lessons, dance and acting classes, advanced musical theater workshops and summer arts camp programs in Palatine.
