Abbott, Bandits win 1-0

The Chicago Bandits improved their record to 18-6 with a 1-0 victory over the visiting Akron Racers (10-15).

Monica Abbott (10-1) and Rachel Fico (2-3) faced off in the circle, both pitching complete games. Abbott led the way with 8 strikeouts to extend the Bandits’ first-place lead to 1½ games over the USSSA Pride.

The Racers started the game with a single by Taylor Schlopy, but she was left stranded as the Bandits ended the inning with a putout by shortstop Tammy Williams to Alisa Goler.

The Bandits put together 3 hits in the second, led off by Alisa Goler and Tammy Williams back-to-back singles. Amber Patton’s bunt advanced the runners, and Vicky Galindo picked up her 10th RBI after beating out the throw at first and scoring the Bandits’ run.
