Hawks Carcillo traded to L.A.

By Mike Spellman

Daniel Carcillo knew better than most the fine line that high-energy players like himself walked while playing for a loaded team like the Blackhawks.

"A person in my position, you almost have to play the game perfectly and contribute anything you can to help the team win or else you're most likely not going to be in," the veteran forward told the Daily Herald after what turned out to be his last on-ice appearance as a Blackhawk -- a 4-1 loss to the Red Wings in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals, in which he led the way with a team-high 7 hits.

Now he will have to walk that fine line with Los Angeles after the Blackhawks traded Carcillo, 28, to the Kings in exchange for a conditional selection in the 2015 draft, ending a bumpy, injury-plagued two-year run in Chicago for the player known as Car Bomb.

With two knee injuries over the past two seasons, Carcillo's ice time the past two seasons was severely limited. He played in just 28 regular-season games in 2011-12 and 23 this year.

He was plus-2 with an assist in 4 playoff games this season.

"I did some yoga and some work with some people who have helped me along the way, just some work on your spiritual life and to get some understanding as to why things happen and not get too down," Carcillo said during the run to the Cup.

"You have to have a belief in yourself, which I do. I know what I can do and I know what I can provide. When you get in and you get that opportunity, you just have to seize that moment."

• The Blackhawks signed defenseman Ryan Stanton to a one-year contract.

Stanton, 23, had a career-high 22 assists and 25 points in 73 regular-season games with the Rockford IceHogs this season.
