Enjoy ‘Movies in the Park’ in Elgin

Watch a movie under the stars with your family and friends at the weekly “Movies in the Park” at 7 p.m. at Festival Park, as well as once at Wing Park in Elgin.

Prior to the free movie showing, kids can enjoy activities based around the movie theme. Refreshments will be sold by local nonprofit community groups. The events at Festival Park will feature $2 train rides on the Elgin Express.

On Thursday, July 18, the movie will be the 2008 DreamWorks animated movie “Kung Fu Panda,” followed on July 25 by the 2012 Pixar animated movie “Brave.”

On Aug. 1, the 2004 DreamWorks animated movie “Shark Tale” will be shown at the Wing Park Pool. Start time will be 7:30 p.m. A small donation is required for entry into the pool. It will benefit the Elgin Park and Recreation’s Youth Scholarship Fund.

On Tuesday, Aug. 6, the movie night will be held during National Night Out. The 2012 superhero movie “Marvel’s The Avengers” will be shown. The series will conclude with the 1993 Steven Spielberg classic “Jurassic Park.”
