Mourners pay tribute in Zion to fallen firefighter

The family of Anthony Rose was joined by hundreds of firefighters and supporters last night during a memorial service in Zion. Rose was killed June 30 along with 18 other members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots while battling a wildfire north of Phoenix. “All of this tradition and the fire trucks are for the family to show them the fire service is with them and for them,” said Justin Stried, of the Zion department. Cary residents have their say about flooding

Tears from Cary residents and stories of how the flooding from late June left their lives in ruins dominated a specially called village board meeting last night. There was Clyde Porter, who said the six floods he experienced for 17 years forced him and his family to move out of their Cary home two years ago. To this day, sound of rainfall makes him nervous. Cash found in garden given to neighbor’s daughter

A McHenry County judge awarded most of the $150,000 found by a Johnsburg man to the daughter of the neighbor who claimed the money. The neighbor said she had thrown the money away thinking it was cursed. Full story.

Buffalo Grove-based Advanced Vehicle Technology Services Inc., also known as Advanced VTech, plans to grow at its headquarters in Buffalo Grove by using a new technology for both commercial and consumer vehicles that can operate more efficiently and greener with compressed natural gas fuel systems. Jackson’s turnaround key to Cubs win

Phegley’s slam leads White Sox over Tigers 6-3

Joshua Phegley’s 6th-inning grand slam gave Chris Sale some long-awaited run support, and the Sox went on to beat the Detroit Tigers 6-3 yesterday in a game that included a bench-clearing altercation shortly after the White Sox took the lead. Full story
