Two Aurora men charged with growing pot

Two Aurora men have been charged with unlawful production of cannabis and unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver after authorities said they seized 230 plants and 5 pounds of cultivated marijuana in a townhouse at 434 Plaza Place.

Naperville and Aurora police said they found the marijuana-growing operation after obtaining a search warrant for the residence.

Both men, Gregory F. Accardi, 60, and Matthew J. Fenton, 30, said they lived at the Plaza Place address. Accardi also was charged with resisting arrest.

During separate bond court appearances on Friday, both men said they were unemployed. Accardi said he was staying with Fenton but didn’t have a permanent address.

Prosecutors said in court that Accardi and Fenton were working together to expand the marijuana-growing operation. Since the partnership began, prosecutors said, the men were earning as much as $40,000 a month — a claim Fenton denied while appearing in court over a video feed from the DuPage County jail.

“Your honor, her figure is not correct,” Fenton said.

Accardi and Fenton were each being held Friday at the jail on $125,000 bond.
