Des Plaines man charged with harassing witness

A 29-year-old Des Plaines man on parole has been charged with harassing a witness in a criminal case against him.

Cook County sheriff’s police were called to the 8900 block of Kennedy Drive in Maine Township near Des Plaines on a report of a battery just after midnight Thursday. Detectives said Michael Schaar spit on the victim and threatened the person with bodily harm.

Detectives also learned that the victim was a witness in an assault case against Schaar and that Schaar blamed the victim for his June 22 arrest. Schaar was charged with the felony of harassing a witness as well as misdemeanor battery. Bond was set at $125,000 Friday and his next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, July 15, in Skokie.
