Schaumburg police reported the successful implementation of expanded traffic patrols which, with community support, helped avoid injuries and accidents during the Fourth of July holiday.
The additional patrol officers were assigned nightly from June 29 to July 6 through an Illinois Department of Transportation grant. Two arrests were made for driving under the influence, and a total of 65 citations — 42 for failure to wear a seat belt — were issued.
On July 4, six citations were issued for illegal possession of fireworks. Officers inventoried seven boxes of aerial displays, seven mortar-type fireworks, and numerous assorted bottle rockets, firecrackers and Roman candles. There were no serious injuries from traffic collisions or fireworks during the week.Copyright © 2014 Paddock Publications, Inc. All rights reserved.
