West Dundee youth minister facing sex charges bonds out

A West Dundee church youth minister accused of having sex with a minor was released from jail Thursday afternoon after posting bond.

A judge set bail Thursday morning at $100,000 for Chad Coe, 31, of Elgin, meaning he needed to post $10,000 to be released while the case was pending.

A Kane County judge ordered Coe to surrender his passport, have no contact with the alleged victim or victim’s family and no contact with anyone younger than 18 unless it is a family member. Coe told the judge he does not have any previous criminal arrests.

Coe, who was placed on leave from his position as the Director of Youth Ministry at the First Congregational Church of Dundee after his arrest Tuesday, is next due in court on July 19.

His father and brother watched the bond hearing via closed circuit television and Coe’s father told the judge he could put up $10,000 bond for his son’s release. The father and brother declined to comment afterward.

If convicted of aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Coe could face up to 15 years in prison and would have to register as a sex offender for life.
