Elgin Opera to offer master classes

Sign up now for Elgin Opera’s Summer Master Classes and Vocal Recital, which will be held Saturday, July 13, and Sunday, July 14, at the Sears Gallery and Kimball Street Theatre on Elgin Academy’s campus, 350 Park St. in Elgin.

The teachers will be Karen Brunssen, a mezzo soprano, Northwestern University; Bruce Hall, baritone, Roosevelt University; and William Powers, bass/baritone, opera singer.

They will concentrate on musical accuracy, diction and character interpretation with up to eight selected singers per class.

Students will perform in a recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 14. Auditors may sit in on the classes and recital throughout the weekend.

Singers ages 17 and older may participate at $100; auditors for $25. Applications may be made online and purchased via PayPal by visiting www.elginopera.org, or printed from Elgin Opera’s website, with check or credit card information to be mailed to: Elgin Opera, 350 Park St., Suite 207, Elgin, IL 60120.
