LifeSource and Culver's Mascot, Scoopie, Promote Summer Blood Drive

Among several businesses participating in Taste of Grayslake on Saturday was LifeSource, Chicagoland's Blood Center, which had its own booth and van for donations. Also in attendance was Culver's mascot Scoopie, who helped promote registration for this summer's "Give a Pint, Get a Pint," blood drive.

LifeSource and Culver's have teamed up to sponsor the blood drive, which will take place at various Chicagoland Culver's locations throughout the coming months. The summertime event kicks off at Culver’s of Grayslake, 1239 Route 83, on Saturday, July 6, 9a.m.-9p.m. All participating donors will receive a complimentary pint of Culver’s famous frozen custard, while participants who pre-register to donate will also receive a complimentary Culver’s value basket.

Following Grayslake's event will be Culver’s of Mundelein, 220 Oak Creek Plaza, on Tuesday, July 9, 9a.m.-9p.m., and Culver’s of Libertyville, 803 E. Park Ave., Thursday, July 11 from 9a.m.-9p.m.

“Blood donations are typically at their lowest levels during the summer months, and that also happens to be when there is a great need for blood,” said Chris Searles, Culver’s of Grayslake owner. “Through the efforts of more than 40 Chicagoland Culver’s restaurants, we will help collect more than 1,000 pints of blood this summer and help save over 3,000 lives.”

Interested donors can pre-register inside their local Culver’s or visit www.lifesource.org for rules and to see dates, times and locations of their nearest Culver’s blood drive event.

It’s easy to donate. The donation process takes about an hour and is both safe and comfortable. Blood donors need to be at least 17-years-old, 16 with written parental consent, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. Most medications are accepted. Please bring photo identification such as a driver’s license, state ID or passport.
