Water main work set to begin in Naperville

Construction on Naperville’s Washington Street water main improvement project is scheduled to begin Monday, July 8, and continue through September, officials said.

The water main installation and associated work will be done in phases along several portions of Washington, they said, including Hillside Avenue from Main Street to the east side of Washington; Washington just south of Martin Avenue; and Washington just west of Fredenhagen Park at 420 S. Washington and Osler Drive.

The work is part of the water department’s long-term plan to enhance the performance and reliability of the downtown area’s water distribution system.

The project will require lane reductions along Washington from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and occasional lane closures from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays.

Traffic on Hillside Avenue will remain two-way throughout construction; lanes will be shifted to the south side of the street. Pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be detoured.

Driveways in the construction area will be blocked at times and residents and businesses will be notified ahead of time. Residences in the immediate vicinity of construction will experience short periods of water service disruption while new services are being connected.

Motorists and residents should expect heavy equipment, trucking, noise and dust throughout the project.
