The city of Chicago is expanding its food assistance program to 77 pantries across the city.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced the partnership with the Greater Chicago Food Depository on Saturday. He says the changes will make it easier for needy families to get food, and that the items they receive will be more nutritious.

The Chicago Department of Family and Support Services previously used six community service centers and a mobile outreach to provide emergency boxes of food to families.
