Chicago man charged in brother’s shooting death

A 19-year-old Chicago man is charged with shooting his 16-year-old brother to death.

Michael D. Whitney was charged Saturday with involuntary manslaughter of a family member in the death of high school student Malcolm Whitney. Michael Whitney also is charged with unlawful use of a weapon.

Malcolm Whitney attended Hyde Park Academy and played basketball. Coach Antonne Samuels says the boy was a “model student-athlete.”

Malcolm Whitney was shot in the head on Friday and pronounced dead at a hospital in Oak Lawn. The Cook County medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.

There was no phone listing for Michael Whitney in Chicago. It was unclear if he had an attorney.
