Grayslake Greenery Garden Club Announces Scholarship Winner

The Grayslake Greenery Garden Club is pleased to announce Shohreh Riassati

as their 2013 scholarship winner. Shohreh has been on a long journey to reach her dream of becoming a landscape designer. She came from Iran where she had no voice. With her baby daughter she left Iran, went to Italy, and eventually arrived in the United States.

She worked many different jobs to support her little family. She values learning

and found it a privilege to pursue an education here in the United States. She pushed herself and her daughter to learn our language by going to the library to listen to books on tape. She demonstrated her steadfast drive to learn throughout her life and is now taking classes at The College of Lake County. Her talent as an accomplished artist led to her interest in landscape design. She is also expanding her knowledge in horticulture and gardening. Her teachers say she is an extremely dedicated, hard working student who is passionate about plants, trees, and nature. We are proud to support her in her quest to continue her education and eventually live her dream.

The Grayslake Greenery Garden Club is a community of workers who earn

money for the scholarship through their annual spring plant sale and by selling bouquets for the local dance recitals held at Grayslake Central High School. The club also contributes to the community with their work at the Senior Center, by planting and harvesting a youth garden which produces food for the Avon Food Pantry, and making local donations of trees on Earth Day.
