Boomers win 1-0 in 11 innings

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Bobby Martin hit a chopper against reliever Chris Squires in the top of the 11th inning, and Sean Mahley scored all the way from second base as the Schaumburg Boomers held on to beat host Traverse City 1-0.

Right-hander Chris Phelan worked 7 shutout innings for the Boomers, but did not figure in the decision. Relievers Preston Hatcher and Dexter Price stymied the Bums for the final 4 innings, combining to strike out eight.

Mahley and Chad Mozingo each had a pair of hits.

The Boomers continue their six-game road trip today against the Joliet Slammers, as right-hander Mike Giovenco (3-3, 4.78) starts against righty Evan Anundsen (3-4, 6.00) of the Slammers.
