Cougars rally twice to win in 10 innings

By

Trailing 6-0 and 7-1, the Kane County Cougars appeared on their way to a seventh consecutive loss to begin the second half, but they rallied to beat the Beloit Snappers 8-7 in 10 innings Thursday at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva.

In the 10th, the Cougars' Oliver Zapata reached on a bunt single, advanced to third on consecutive throwing errors and scored the winning run on a wild pitch.

The Cougars had trailing 7-2 in the bottom of the seventh when Zapata tripled and scored on Albert Almora's single. Three batters later, Rock Shoulders launched a 3-run homer that pulled the Cougars to within a run. In the Cougars' eighth, Zapata singled, stole second and scored on another Almora single.

Relievers Sheldon McDonald and winner Jeff Antigua (3-1) each worked 3 shutout innings.

The Cougars and Snappers play in the finale of their four-game series today at 6:30 p.m. Left-hander Michael Heesch (3-5) starts for the Cougars against right-hander Dakota Bacus (6-2).
