Fire damages 15 units at Woodridge apartment complex

By Jessica Cilella

A Wednesday morning fire displaced residents from 15 units of a Woodridge apartment complex, according to a news release from the Darien-Woodridge Fire District.

Firefighters received a report of a fire alarm on the 7000 block of Woodward Avenue around 11:30 a.m. Crews found smoke coming from the roof of the three-story apartment building upon arrival. The fire alarm system was activated by a maintenance worker after a resident called the apartment complex's management office to report smoke coming from their wall.

Multiple fire departments helped put out the fire, which spread to the three floors and the attic of the complex, according to officials.

The fire left moderate damage to the building, which has more than 40 units. No injuries were reported, but housing assistance was requested from the Red Cross.

The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation.
