The Lake Villa Elementary District 41 last night voted to close J.J. Pleviak Elementary School after the 2013-14 school year. The vote was prompted by a $1.8 million budget deficit and declining enrollment throughout the district. Board members did not determine how grade levels at other schools would be reconfigured. A teenage girl died from injuries she sustained as a passenger in a single-vehicle crash in Gurnee Monday night and three others were injured, police say. A two-door Honda crashed into the center median and went airborne before, police believe, it rolled over, ejecting two of the passengers. Full story.
The Prospect Heights City Council last night approved a severance agreement for the manager of the Chicago Executive Airport, who will be undergoing a bone marrow stem cell transplant. Wheeling, co-owner of the airport, has made no public action on the issue. Full story.

Gurnee village board members last night heard a review of how officials handled flooding near the Des Plaines River in April.
