One shot during failed Oakbrook Center robbery

One person was shot and two remain at large after a failed attempted armed robbery at Oakbrook Center yesterday afternoon. Police say three men entered C.D. Peacock and smashed the jewelry store’s display case. A security guard in the store shot one suspect. The other two fled in a black SUV. Full story.

Streamwood high school grad recovering from tiger attack

A 2008 Streamwood High School graduate is showing improvement after a tiger attacked her Friday and left her in critical condition in an Indianapolis hospital. Marissa Dub, of Terre Haute, is now in serious condition. The animal attacked her while she cleaned a tiger cage at Exotic Feline Rescue Center. Full story.

Young Eagles take flight in Sugar Grove

About 70 children ages 8 to 17 got free small-plane rides yesterday at a Young Eagles Rally organized by the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 579, based in Aurora. Several pilots donate their time, planes and fuel to introduce children to aviation several times a year. Future free flight dates are: Aug. 25, Sept. 22, and Oct. 27. Full story.

Fire damages Mt. Prospect coach house

A coach house under renovation near Mount Prospect suffered more than $60,000 in damage during a fire yesterday morning. A dog alerted the homeowner to the blaze, in the 200 block of Woodland Drive. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Full story.

Mundelein to consider resuming Seavey ditch work

Mundelein officials will consider a contract tonight for proposed improvements to the Seavey drainage ditch that runs through town. HR Green Inc. will be paid $194,670, if village trustees approve the work. Full story.

It will be another hot and humid day today, with a high of 88 degrees. Expect sun with a few clouds and some warm breezes. There is a chance for heavy thunderstorms and flooding in some areas. It will likely be in the mid-70s and sunny when you walk out the door this morning.

There are some delays around O’Hare, heading outbound on I-90, but no other delays to report on the roads so far this morning.
