Local Synchronized Swimmers Win Gold

Members of the AquaSprite Masters Synchronized Swimming team took top honors in team competition and medaled in several other events at the 2013 Pan American Masters Championships held recently in Sarasota, FL.

Winning gold in the 35-49 age group was the six-person team of Heather Dueball of Arlington Heights, Laura Kasprzak of Chicago, Elizabeth Miro of Des Plaines, Veronica Morgan of Rockford, Holly Seguine of Evanston and Ivelina Zografova of Mount Prospect.

In addition, Miro and Morgan won a bronze medal in duet competition in the 30-39 age group. Kasprzak, Seguine and Zografova took 4th place in the 35-49 trio event. In solo competition, Andrea Pedersen of Palatine took 5th place in the 50-59 division while Dueball took 7th place in the 20-29 division.

The group was coached in Florida by Joanne Schalk of Morton Grove. The team practices at the Lattof YMCA in Des Plaines under head coach Nan Zack of Mount Prospect.

In other synchro news, the AquaSprites 13-17 age group team is preparing for the eSynchro Age Group Synchronized Swimming Championships to be held at the end of June in Riverside, CA. Lattof offers youth and masters summer programs that run from June 9-August 10. The groups will perform at an annual summer show in August.
