Poll Vault: Are you registered as an organ or tissue donor?

By Michelle Holdway

As Deborah Donovan reported earlier this week, the manager of the Chicago Executive Airport is taking a leave of absence while he undergoes a bone marrow stem cell transplant.

Dennis Rouleau has a condition called polycythemia vera, and he's grateful to have found a volunteer donor through Be the Match, a national bone marrow registry.

Joining the registry is easy (I know because I did a year or so ago). The organization will mail you a packet with a few cotton swabs that you rub on the inside of your cheek, then send back.

Are you on the national bone marrow registry, too?

Have you signed the back of your driver's license to signify you're an organ donor?

Do you give blood?

Have you or anyone in your family benefitted from an anonymous donor?
