Midwest Reproductive Symposium Showcases Latest Medical Advancements in Reproductive Endocrinology

June 20, 2013 (Chicago, IL) – The Midwest Reproductive Symposium, held June 20-22, 2013 in Chicago, IL. will draw top national and international leaders in the field of reproductive endocrinology. The symposium, hosted by Fertility Centers of Illinois, will discuss advancements, techniques, and treatment modalities relevant to the practice of reproductive medicine.

"We are proud to host some of top experts in reproductive endocrinology, “says Dr. Angeline Beltsos, medical director of Fertility Centers of Illinois and MRS chairperson. “This year's symposium will discuss some exciting advancements in fertility treatment.”

One innovation that could benefit many patients is an embryoscope which provides time lapse videography of embryo development. The technology will be used to determine which embryos are healthy by identifying embryos that divide at the proper rate.

Dr. John Tilly will present his work with oogonial stem cells, human egg-producing stem cells that could potentially give new vitality to aging human eggs. The eggs are injected with mitochondria to help make them new again. The technology could help thousands of women who suffer from premature menopause or whose eggs are no longer viable due to the aging process.

Ovarian tissue preservation is another cutting edge advancement to be discussed at the Chicago symposium. Women undergoing cancer or other medical treatment that can harm fertility can preserve their fertility through ovarian tissue preservation. During the process, ovarian tissue is removed and cryopreserved while the patient undergoes cancer treatment. When the patient has finished treatment, the tissue can be thawed and implanted in the patient, where it will start to produce new eggs and allow for normal conception. Ovarian tissue preservation is especially beneficial for young cancer patients who have not yet hit puberty.

The Midwest Reproductive Symposium will take place at The Swissotel in Chicago, IL. For more information visit http://midwestreproductionsymposium.org.
