Buffalo Grove honors two firefighters

Buffalo Grove has honored two firefighters who risked their lives to recover the body of a man trapped in a chemical tank in Wheeling. Firefighters William Navarro and Daniel Pasquarella distinguished themselves for their bravery in going into the tank, officials said.

Fire Chief Terry Vavra honored the two men during this week's Buffalo Grove Village Board meeting. He put the audience in the minds of the two men on Nov. 29, 2012, after firefighters were called to 225 Carpenter Ave. Pasquarella was lowered into the tank with Navarro as backup.

“Imagine if you will, you're standing on top of a 25-foot-tall tank, looking down into a hole and seeing nothing. But you know there is somebody in there. And your job is going to be to go into that tank — and you know that the person in there died from the fumes in that tank. There is not many of us that would say, 'Yeah, I'll go.' These guys do.”
