Work on widening Mannheim Road through Des Plaines, Rosemont and Schiller Park near O’Hare International Airport will start soon, Gov. Pat Quinn’s office announced Thursday.
The $59 million project will be paid for with money from a 2009 construction program that raised vehicle fees and alcohol taxes, among other things.
About a mile and a half of the road will be widened from Route 19 to Interstate 190, and similar work will be done on a mile and a half between Interstate 190 and Route 72.
“This project will improve traffic flow in one of Chicagoland’s key transportation hubs,” Quinn said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Quinn also announced $1.8 million worth of road projects in DuPage County that will start within the next 30 days, his spokesman said.
About 2˝ miles of North Avenue in Elmhurst and Villa Park will be resurfaced, and new LED traffic lights will be installed at intersections throughout the county.Copyright © 2014 Paddock Publications, Inc. All rights reserved.
