Schaumburg fire causes $40,000 in damages

A fire caused about $40,000 in damages at a Schaumburg home Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Capt. Frank Chambers of the Schaumburg Fire Department said crews were called for an attic fire at a home on the 700 block of East Weathersfield Way about 5 p.m.

Upon arrival, crews saw smoke showing from the eaves of the attic, he said, and the home’s residents already evacuated.

Firefighters discovered that the fire was in a wall on the front of the building, Chambers said. According to investigators, it appears plumbing work may have started the fire.

The fire was under control in about 15 minutes, Chambers said. There were no injuries.

Chambers said the front side of the house sustained damages from the overhaul work firefighters had to do to reach the fire. There was also smoke damage in the attic.
