U-46 will not let scores drop below 50
Elgin Area School District U-46 has decided, without a school board vote, to alter its grading scale by dropping scores below 50 in the typical 0 to 100 grading scale. Doing so adjusts the grade so that a teacher's average is mathematically justified, teachers said. Full story.
Lake Zurich ends retirement participation
Trustees in Lake Zurich voted last night to end their participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension plan after an audit determined that they don't work enough hours to qualify. Trustees would have needed to work 1,000 hours per year, or roughly 20 hours per week, to qualify. Full story.
St. Charles welcomes new alderman, fire chief
New Third Ward Alderman Todd Bancroft took his seat on the St. Charles City Council last night, just in time to vote in the city's new fire chief, Joe Schelstreet. Schelstreet, a longtime deputy fire chief, as served as the interim chief for several months. Full story.
Arlington Heights karaoke bar wants liquor license back
An Arlington Heights karaoke bar previously stripped of its liquor license petitioned village leaders last night to get its license back. The Music Box, at 224 E. Golf Road, was previously Ding Dong Dang. Incorrect paperwork and improperly tinted windows, as well as a previous owners conviction for prostitution, led to the cancellation of the license. E. Dundee seeks payment on defaulted loan
A letter to a former East Dundee grocer demands payment on a $30,000 loan that defaulted when Discount Grocery folded just 10 months after opening in 2011. Fred Thompson, citing legal troubles with the original Discount Grocery location's landlord, said last night that he plans to repay the loan. Full story.
Ex-Glenbard East student pleads not guilty in graduation plot
Michael Santoro, 19, of Lombard, plead not guilty to charges of felony disorderly conduct at a hearing yesterday. Authorities say Santoro plotted to shoot people at Glenbard East's graduation ceremony in May after he was unable to graduate from the school last year. Full story.

Dayan Viciedo's bases-loaded triple in a four-run sixth inning sent the Chicago White Sox to a 4-2 win over the Houston Astros on Monday night.
