Pirate Boosters raised money for Palatine High School’s new marquee

Palatine High School now can display its events, accomplishments, and news on a new marquee located in front of the building, thanks to numerous fundraising efforts by the P.H.S. Pirate Boosters.

Three and a half years ago, the P.H.S. marquee was in need of costly repairs. It was evident it would be more cost efficient to replace the marquee, and the school approached the boosters for help.

“We approached the boosters, and they initially helped us with a generous amount of money,” said Mike Alther, assistant principal at Palatine High School. “Then they really spearheaded the Drive One For Your School event in partnership with Arlington Heights Ford, which allowed us to meet our financial needs. This was all due to the boosters work.”

The marquee has a full color screen display and allows for enhanced programming capabilities. Now displays can be in color with graphics and animation. Palatine High School also worked with the village of Palatine to ensure the marquee met any requirements and ordinances.

“The marquee is an opportunity for us to communicate with the students, parents, and members of the community if they are passing by Palatine High School,” Alther said. “Now it is up to date and has current technology, which really allows us to be more flexible in how and what we can display.”
