Gun violence prevention groups hold vigil in Palatine

By

Gun violence prevention groups held a vigil Friday evening in downtown Palatine to commemorate the six-month anniversary of the Sandy Hook shootings.

Led by chapters of Organizing for Action, multiple organizations partnered to call on Congress to enact "common-sense" reform measures such as expanded background checks and limiting magazine clips for automatic weapons.

They met at the Metra station and honored the victims of the Newtown, Conn., massacre while also acknowledging the 4,800 additional Americans murdered since then.

Organizations involved in the vigil included the Northwest Suburban and Lake/McHenry chapters of Organizing for Action, Newtown Action Alliance in partnership with People for a Safer Society, Citizens for Safer Communities, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, Women's Resource Center Palatine Township Democrats, Northwest Suburban Women Democrats and Common Sense Reform.
