Des Plaines FEMA disaster recovery center to close

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Disaster Recovery Center at 1486 Miner St. in Des Plaines will close Friday, June 21. FEMA Mobile Disaster Recovery Teams will continue working in Des Plaines making personal visits until June 27. The deadline to register for FEMA disaster assistance is July 9. Residents affected by storms and flooding between April 16 and May 5 have to register with FEMA to receive assistance. Anyone registered will be assigned a nine-digit Registration Identification Number. For more information or to verify registration status, call the FEMA Helpline at (800) 621-3362 or (800) 462-7585 for the hearing-impaired. People who use 711 Relay or Video Relay Services should call (800) 621-3362. Toll-free numbers operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Multilingual phone operators are available on the FEMA helpline.
